The rainy “Horn Grand Prix 1003 km race” in Lithuania was won by Porsche

After 10 hours race traditional sixth “Horn Grand Prix 1003 km” was won by the drivers of the “Oktanas – Snaige” first team: Egidijus Dapsas, Nemunas Dagilis and Nerijus Dagilis with Porsche Carrera GT3. They overtook 2nd place winners Vitalij Dudin and Vadim Kharlov (“Maxmotor-Uljanovsk” team) from Russia with “Lada Revolution” by 13 laps.

Audrius Gelzinis, Jonas Gelzinis, Vytautas Svedas and Arunas Bartusevicius (“Juta – Statoil lubricants” team) with Audi A4 took 3rd place. For the first time in race history drivers could not overpass all 1000 km distance in 10 hours time. The race was stopped when drivers passed 331 laps (993 km) in 10 hours. Participants, guests and press considered this year race as the biggest and the best in all its history. Furthermore, over 90 journalists from Lithuania, Russia, Latvia, and Finland were accredited in race’s Press center.

37 teams from Lithuania, Russia, Finland, Estonia and Latvia participated in this biggest festival of speed in Baltic countries held in Lithuanian resort Palanga. The race was live covered on biggest Lithuanian TV chanell TV3 (member of Viasat group).

Pole position winners stoped at the beggining



Drivers trio with “AGM Kit Car” from “Adampolis – Mobil racing” team began race from the Pole position. Ramunas Capkauskas took its one and half an hour session without any mistakes and Vidas Cebatavicius took his place by the wheel in leaders position. Unfortunately, the third driver of the team four times winner of Horn Grand prix 1003 km race Vytautas Venskunas didn’t take part in the race. The powerful BMW engine failed when the team stopped for the fuel – the team had to end the race after 57 laps.


Storm interfered the race

Drivers annually competed in a rainy track in Palanga. So when the rain started on the third hour of the race no one had a bad though. However on the part way of the race sky was coated with the big black clouds and soon the rain became a true hurricane: wind was tearing paddock and pitlane structures and team garages and the Safety Car reduced drivers’ speed till minimum for an hour. Some drivers lost car control in these conditions, but almost all fixed damages and continued competition.

Reliability is the most important

“We won without any bigger problems: fueling was on time, there were enough rain tyres and the drivers successfully avoided mistakes” – Egidijus Dapsas commented. The biggest this year international racing show in Baltics is over. It is likely that ambitions to overcome “Porsche” become stronger and stronger, so it means that next year, on the last weekend of July, the grid will be even more stronger.
